III Ciclo de Astroconferencias Antares: Protoplanetary Disc Around Young Stars

El próximo jueves día 9 de Febrero se inaugurará el III Ciclo de Astroconferencias que la Agrupación de Estudiantes Antares organiza. El ciclo comenzará este jueves con la charla titulada ''Protoplanetary Disc Around Young Stars'' impartida por Gwendolyn Meeus del Departamento de Física Teórica de la UAM, e investigadora Ramón y Cajal. Tendrá lugar a las 15:00 en la sala de Conferencias del Módulo 00 de la Facultad de Ciencias de la Uam. A continuacion os presentamos un pequeño resumen sobre lo que tratará la conferencia:

Protoplanetary Discs around young stars: What we can learn from the infrared satellites ISO, Spitzer and Herschel.

A disc around a star is a natural by-product of the star formation process, in which planets are expected to form. Indeed, a lot of exoplanets have been found around others stars, showing that our own solar system is not unique. In order to understand the planet-forming process, it is important to go back to the earliest stages, when the star is still surrounded by a disc rich in gas and dust, and see how such protoplanetary system evolve, and what causes their differences. In this talk i will show you how we use certain observations as a diagnostic of the disc estructure and/or of the gas/dust properties, and how we can put this in the context of the earliest stages of planet formation.
